I’m currently resting on the Tasmanian coast while I moult. I’ll be ashore for the next 3 to 5 weeks.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhy I’m here\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eI’m shedding my old outer skin and fur, which is why I need to stay on land. Without my fur, the ocean water is too cold for me right now. I’m not eating while I’m ashore, I’m living off my blubber and getting plenty of rest.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhen I’ll return to the sea\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003eI’ll stay on land until my new waterproof coat has fully grown in. After that, I’ll have a long, deep sleep for about 3 to 4 weeks to rebuild my energy before heading back into the ocean to hunt for squid and fish.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eIf you do see me\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p2\"\u003ePlease give me plenty of space so I can rest undisturbed. Stay at least 20 metres away from me at all times (and 50 metres away if you have a dog). Use your camera’s zoom rather than moving closer. This helps protect both of us.
